Des Arc Schools Announcement: Flooding and School Schedule Update

Dear Des Arc Families,

We would like to inform you that several back roads in our area are currently closed due to flooding. If you live on one of these affected roads or are unable to get your child to school due to flooding, please send a parent note with your child upon their return to school. The note should state where you live and explain why they could not attend school. This note must be submitted within five days of their return. With this documentation, the absence will not count against semester testing.

Aside from this, Des Arc Schools will be operating on a normal schedule. If you have not been contacted by your child’s bus driver, you can assume that the bus will run as usual, and buses will operate at the normal times. Those of you that have been contacted, you should know where to meet the bus.

For those impacted by the flooding in Cotton Plant and Brinkley:

  • If your child is picked up at Cotton Plant, please meet the bus at the Little Dixie turn-off at 7:10 AM.

  • If the barricade is down in the afternoon, the bus will return to Cotton Plant. If the barricade remains in place, you will need to pick up your child from the Little Dixie stop.

  • The road is passable in a car but if the barricades are up and you do not feel safe driving on the road, keep your child home and send the parent note upon return.

Please be aware that with the river rising, there may be additional disruptions later this week. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,
Des Arc Schools

Attached is a list of roads currently closed. I personally drove all the way to Searcy and the road is fine except for the normal shallow water over the road at West Point.
